Ty Segall has released a unique and heart-wrenching version of “Class War” by Chip and Tony Kinman, AKA The Dils. California Rocker previously wrote about the cover ahead of the release.
The Dils wrote “Class War” in 1977 to voice frustration about the gap between the rich and the poor. Today, Segall takes the classic punk song and gives it a new twist, slowing the pace and actually pronouncing the important lyrics.
The new recording of “Class War” will be included on Segall’s album of cover songs called Fudge Sandwich, to be released on Oct. 26. At a recent event, Ty was on hand with wife Denee Segall and even Fanny Dog.
CaliforniaRocker.com broke the news of the Segall cover last August.

The Dils, Chip Kinman and The Late Tony Kinman
Segall’s version of “Class War” is a heartfelt and respectful show of appreciation to the late Tony Kinman. Tony, who with his brother, Chip, had a monumental impact on Southern California punk and “Cow Punk,” passed away from cancer last May.
A Step Back in Time With The Dils
When asked what was the basis for the song “Class War,” Chip Kinman responded today via email:
“We were upping the ante from ‘I Hate The Rich,'” he said. “We had a show in Garden Grove the day we wrote it. No one came to the show so we played ‘Class War’ about 70 times. The only song we played that night, high concept right?”
