Todd Rundgren, Def Leppard, Roxy Music Get First Noms
By DONNA BALANCIA
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2019 nominees have been announced with Todd Rundgren, Def Leppard and Roxy Music making the ballot for the first time.
And once again, the fans can have a say in the selection process and are able to cast a vote for their favorite musician. The musicians with the most votes will be announced in December and will be inducted March 29 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The List of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees:
LL Cool J
Rage Against the Machine
Rufus and Chaka Khan
Stevie Nicks, John Prine and Devo Fellow First-Timers
Besides Def Leppard, Roxy Music and Rundgren, Devo, Stevie Nicks, and John Prine also make their first appearance on the ballot.
Def Leppard’s core since 1992 has been comprised of Joe Elliott on lead vocals, Rick Allen on drums, Rick Savage on bass, Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell on guitar.
Roxy Music was centered around Bryan Ferry and bassist Graham Simpson with Phil Manzanera on guitar, Andy Mackay on sax and Paul Thompson with synthesizer specialists Brian Eno, Eddie Jobson and John Gustafson on bass.
Rundgren is one of music’s unheralded innovators as songwriter and performer. He has had hit commercial radio singles like “Hello It’s Me,” and the later “Bang on the Drum,” but his producer credits range from Meatloaf’s Bat Out of Hell to recent work with The Lemon Twigs and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.
Radiohead and Rage Against the Machine Return to the Ballot
Radiohead, MC5, The Zombies and Rage Against the Machine make their second appearance on the ballot.
Kraftwerk and LL Cool J make their fifth appearance on the ballot, it’s the fourth time for the Zombies, the third time for Janet Jackson and Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, and The Cure gets their second chance to be voted in.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Nominating Committee selects the group of musicians nominated. Ballots are sent to roughly 900 members of the music business, musicians and historians, as well as all living Rock Hall inductees. The five performers who get the most votes are in the induction class.
The Voting Deadline is Dec. 9, 11:59 P.M. EST
The top five vote-getters in the public poll form one ballot, which is weighted the same as the rest of the submitted ballots.
Fans get a voice and can vote on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s website.
