Dolly Parton will be honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year for 2019, it was announced.
Parton is the first country music singer to be feted with the award. Previous honorees include last year’s Fleetwood Mac, the first band to receive the honor, and Tom Petty, who was celebrated in 2017.
The event will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, on Feb. 8, 2019, two nights prior to the 61st Grammy Awards, to be held at L.A.’s Staples Center on Feb. 10, 2019. The show will be broadcast live on CBS at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
MusiCares Charity Assists Musicians in Need
MusiCares proceeds go towards assisting music industry members who need help in trying financial, medical and personal times.
In addition to her remarkable catalogue of songs and her musical body of work, Parton is a philanthropist. She was honored by the Los Angeles Press Club during the SoCal Journalism Awards this year for her achievements with her charity Imagination Library, which mails free books to children.
Imagination Library recently hit an important mark. It has mailed out more than 100 million books. She has a Netflix series coming out and she will receive her second star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year.
