The Shins have unleashed a fourth advance track from Heartworms, called “Painting A Hole.”

Upbeat rhythm and great vocals highlight “Painting A Hole,” as James Mercer’s voice explores the way our society perpetuates beliefs that don’t impact our everyday reality

‘Belief Systems Challenged’

Mercer said it’s his hard look at peoples’ belief systems that inspired the song.

“People create beliefs or inherit them and those beliefs very rarely reflect the reality we live in every day. Like a coyote in a cartoon, painting a hole in the side of a cliff then falling through it, I think these belief systems are just about as ridiculous as that.”
