Thailand Superstar Plays The Roxy in November
By DONNA BALANCIA
Check out what’s trending on YouTube and you’ll find the wildly successful Thailand-born pop star, Phum Viphurit, topping the charts with videos that are pulling down millions of views.
The 22-year-old heartthrob is as popular in Asia as Bruno Mars is here in the U.S., and he’s equally appealing with his youthful innocence and fun songs.
Viphurit, who keeps a down to earth attitude despite his remarkable success, will be playing the Roxy in November, one of four gigs where Americans can check him out.
Viphurit took time out from his busy schedule to answer questions from CaliforniaRocker.com.
You have a great pop sound. Where did you study music?
I studied my music through the Internet. I remember looking up chords to songs I wanted to sing back when I was around 14, from there I just kept learning and learning until I developed a knack for songwriting.
What is your nationality?
Thai Born, New Zealand Raised.
You were born in Thailand and raised in New Zealand. Which place do you prefer, New Zealand or where you live now, Bangkok?
Both places have their pros and cons, I love both of these places with passion but right now if I had to choose where I missed more, I would say New Zealand as I’ve away at college in Bangkok for quite some time now.

How do you navigate all the traffic in Bangkok?
I avoid it all costs by taking the BTS Skytrain or subway.
Where do you go to vacation?
I like the mountains and beaches of Thailand in its low season when its more quiet, sometimes a vacation at my grandma’s home at the heart of Bangkok can be pretty chill too, it all depends on my mood.
Where is the Lover Boy video filmed? It looks like Pattaya or Patong Beach.
It was filmed in Pattaya, Chonburi, a beachside city not too far from Bangkok.
What are your plans for the next year? Do you have new records coming out?
I am working on my sophomore album as we are talking, I plan a few more singles before its official release early next year. I have collaborations coming out with artists from across the ocean and is planning more shows/tours abroad for the upcoming new year and beyond.
