It was a well-received surprise last Monday — well, technically last Tuesday — as CIA, featuring Ty Segall, Emmet Kelly and Denée Petracek Segall on vocals, took over The Echo stage.

Contributing photographer Scott Freeman was on hand to capture photos of the relatively new band, which played the late night set for some lucky fans.

CIA was on the bill with Numb.er, which has a monthlong residency at the Echo, a favorite Echo Park venue that hosts a regular talent-filled Monday night.

The CIA Rocks the Midnight Hour

“CIA plugged in the Echo stage around midnight on Monday night and began to thrill my ears with their sonic and searing guitar and vocals,” said Freeman, a renowned rock photographer.

“Hell yeah I yelled out, and this is the reason I out rock out on a Monday night way past midnight,” Freeman said enthusiastically. “I get the chance to witness this guitar greatness live and up-close. This is what I live for.”

Tonight, Pow!, Hit Bargain and Circuit Break join Numb.er at The Echo.
